Two-sided cards print the back upside down

Updated .

If the back of a two-sided card comes out upside down, open the printer’s profile under Admin > Printers and turn on Rotate back side 180°. If backs print as separate cards instead, turn on duplex (printing both sides) in the printer’s Windows driver.

How Badgewright sends two-sided cards

Each side is its own page, in the order front, back, front, back. The printer driver decides whether a back page goes on the reverse of the card before it or on a new card. That is why duplex is a driver setting: Badgewright sends the pages and the driver does the flipping.

Backs print upside down

Card printers turn the card over in different ways, so on some the back arrives rotated. Fix it once per printer:

  1. Under Admin > Printers, edit the printer’s profile.
  2. Make sure Prints both sides is ticked. The rotation setting only applies to printers that print both sides.
  3. Turn on Rotate back side 180° and save.
  4. Print the alignment test card: its back says “BACK” and has “TOP” with an arrow, so you can see at a glance which way up it came out.

Backs print as separate cards

The driver is printing one side only. In Windows, open the printer’s Printing preferences and turn on duplex, often called “print both sides”. A printer without a flipper cannot print both sides, and each back will come out on its own card.

When the station’s profile is set to one side and the design has two, Badgewright warns you before printing: “This printer profile prints one side. Each back will print as a separate card.”

Backs don’t print at all

Check the design. In the designer’s Card panel, Sides must be Two sides. A design switched to one side keeps its back but does not print it.
